Run a conversion-rate test you can trust

A test programme is only as good as its backlog and its discipline: one variable at a time, run long enough to mean something.

The idea, in one paragraph

A CRO experiment backlog is a prioritized list of potential tests and optimization ideas, serving as a roadmap for ongoing conversion improvement and ensuring a steady pipeline of experiments. A backlog organizes your optimization opportunities. It includes hypotheses, supporting data, estimated impact, and prioritization scores. A healthy backlog ensures that the team always has tests ready to run, avoiding downtime between experiments. It should be updated regularly with new ideas from research, analytics, and stakeholder input. The backlog is a living document that drives the optimization program.

  1. gather ideas from research, analytics, team, and users
  2. formulate hypotheses
  3. score each (Impact, Confidence, Effort)
  4. sort by score
  5. review and refine weekly

Landing page testing for search

A search buyer sets up a landing page test using Google Ads Campaign Experiments. The experiment splits traffic 50/50 between the control landing page and the variation. The manager tests one variable at a time — starting with the headline, then the CTA, then form length. Each test runs for at least 2 weeks (or until statistical significance is reached). Conversion rate, CPA, and ROAS are measured for each variation. The winning variation is implemented as the new control, and the next test begins. The manager ensures the landing page is mobile-first, fast-loading (<3s), and message-matched to the ad. For low-traffic accounts, the manager may need to run tests longer to reach statistical significance.
